The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has identified Max Air as the most unresponsive domestic airline regarding passenger complaints, according to recent data from its Consumer Protection Department (CPD).
Michael Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer protection at the NCAA, disclosed this information in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. He also revealed reports suggesting that Max Air allegedly threatened travel agencies that reported incidents to the regulator.
“According to NCAA data, Max Air has been the most unresponsive domestic airline per passenger complaints and determinations by the NCAA CPD,” Achimugu stated.
“In some cases, there have been allegations of threats to travel agencies for daring to report to the CAA. This will be put to a stop immediately.”
In addition to Max Air, Achimugu mentioned concerns about Air Côte d’Ivoire, the national carrier of Ivory Coast.
The airline has reportedly cancelled flights on days when passenger numbers were insufficient and attempted to combine flights scheduled on different days to meet its preferred passenger targets.
“Both cases will be handled expeditiously by the NCAA,” the director said.
Achimugu emphasised that while the NCAA supports all airlines and recognises that disruptions can sometimes be unavoidable, compliance with aviation regulations remains mandatory and cannot be treated as a matter of convenience.
