The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has called for eyewitnesses who were on board the Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos to testify to the events that transpired before a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, attacked an air hostess.
NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Michael Achimugu, made the call in a post on X.
Emmanson, who was onboard an Ibom Air flight, was reportedly instructed to switch off her mobile phone before takeoff.
The passenger resisted until a fellow traveler intervened. The flight took off without further incident, but upon landing in Lagos, Emmanson launched a violent assault on the purser.
She was detained and arraigned by the police following the incident, and the airline initiated a court process.
Achimugu asked witnesses to send their accounts to [email protected].
According to Achimugu, this is necessary to ensure fair judgment and hear the different sides of the story.
He added that this does not negate the exhibition of unruly behaviour and its ramifications, adding that the process is necessary to ensure that every other person who was culpable down the line is held accountable.
“We will also be sending our officers in Lagos on a fact-finding mission to the police and other security personnel who were part of the entire chain of events.
“Finally, one hopes that lessons are learned from all of these events and that the necessary adjustments and improvements are implemented by all stakeholders; passengers, airline staff, aviation security, etc.”
