The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has issued a strong warning to the public over the activities of fraudsters impersonating its Commandant, Major General Oluwemi Thomas Olatoye, on various social media platforms.
The Academy said the scammers are using platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, and X to create fake accounts in the name of the Commandant and fraudulently offer contracts to unsuspecting members of the public.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Academy’s Public Relations Officer, Reuben Kovangiya, and shared through its official X handle on Thursday.
The NDA described the accounts as deliberate schemes designed to deceive and defraud individuals of their hard-earned resources, stressing that it has no connection whatsoever with such activities.
According to the statement, members of the public are strongly advised to disregard and avoid any interaction with the fraudulent accounts.
“Any interaction with such entities is done at the individual’s risk, as the NDA will not be held liable for any resulting loss,” the statement warned.
The Academy reiterated that it communicates officially with the public only through its verified channels, including its website and recognised social media handles, as well as reputable national newspapers.
It further clarified that the Commandant does not conduct official engagements or communications through personal social media accounts or any unofficial online platforms.
The NDA urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding the public from fraudulent schemes.
