NDL underscores need for youth empowerment

Nigeria Distilleries Limited has underscored the need for youth empowerment in the country.

This, according to the firm, will aid in repositioning the youth as future leaders and guarantee a prosperous future for the country.

It also said that investment in young people would lead to sustainable transformation and development in the future

The Marketing Manager, Nigeria Distilleries Limited (NFL), brewers of Lord’s London Dry Gin, Oluwagbemileke Lawal, said this while unveiling the 2025 Lord’s Achievers Award (LAA) in Lagos.

The event, which will mark the seventh edition of the award, will spotlight individuals whose accomplishments transcend personal success to drive socio-economic progress.

Speaking on the need to invest in young people, Lawal said: “Our investment in the Lord’s Achievers Awards (LAA) is a reflection of our long-standing belief in the power of youths to shape the future by recognising young leaders and innovators across diverse sectors. We are celebrating achievement while creating a platform that inspires, encourages, and empowers others to take bold steps toward positive change.

“The event held annually seeks to celebrate young achievers, leaders, innovators, and changemakers whose works embody excellence, leadership, and societal impact.

“The 2025 Awards will also see the introduction of four new categories: Media & Journalism, Sports, Content Creation, and Film & Entertainment, while ensuring a broader recognition of achievers across emerging and influential sectors.”

Lawal added that by celebrating excellence and continually refining the platform, the Lord’s Achievers Awards remained committed to recognising and inspiring individuals creating meaningful, lasting impacts.

In his remarks, the Senior Brand Manager, Lord’s London Dry Gin, Olusegun Akinyemiju, said: “Lord’s Gin has always stood for distinction, character, and excellence. The evolution of the Awards and the credibility of this year’s jury process reinforce our commitment to building a legacy platform that honours achievers whose impact will be remembered for years to come.”

The LAA has, over the past six editions, honoured more than 60 outstanding achievers across business, technology, arts, social impact, and more.

With the host of the 7th edition, the LAA has taken a significant step forward by introducing a formal jury session, underscoring its commitment to a credible, transparent, and evolving selection process, the statement said.

This year’s jury includes Stephanie Busari, Senior Editor, Africa, CNN; Chuka Obi, Director of Creativity & Innovations, Globacom; Titilope Adesanya, Director of Operations, Africa, EMPIRE; Wole Odetayo, CEO, Southwest Innovation & Tech Co. Ltd, among others.

According to the firm, the jury members would examine nominees against key criteria, including innovation, impact, leadership, sustainability, and alignment with the brand’s values.

Jury members highlighted their commitment to fairness and inclusivity, balancing youth representation with sector realities.

As the countdown to LAA 2025 begins, the stage is set to unveil a new generation of achievers whose stories will ignite ambition and drive across Nigeria.
