THE All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Anambra South Senatorial District in the March 28 National Assembly election, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe has filed a petition at the election petitions tribunal in Awka challenging the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Andy Emmanuel Uba, as winner of the election by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the petition which was filed by his counsel, Nnoruka Udechukwu (SAN), recently, Ndukwe is seeking a declaration of the tribunal that the PDP candidate was not elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast in the election and that he (Uba) was not qualified to contest the said election at the time it held.

The APGA candidate also seeks a declaration of the tribunal that he (Ndukwe) won the March 28 Senatorial election for Anambra South district.

Ndukwe urged the tribunal to meticulously consider the petition and do justice to his plea.

Speaking with The Guardian on his decision to approach the tribunal, Ndukwe said: “I have no doubt that the tribunal is made up of a team of tested professionals, who will not only promote the rule of law but will also seek to advance the frontiers of good democratic processes in Nigeria. Hence, my complete trust and belief that my mandate will be returned as expressly and as timely as possible.

“I want to express my profound gratitude to the people of Anambra South Senatorial Zone for believing in me and overwhelmingly saying so with their votes. To those who have been calling to encourage me to pursue and recover the stolen mandate, my promise is that by God’s grace, I will do whatever is legally possible to make this dream we all shared a reality.”

Ndukwe stated that having been on ground to witness the unprecedented level of irregularities during the election and at the various collation centres, he would not leave such impunity and rape of the express wishes of the people unchallenged.
