Ali Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South senatorial district, has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove additional underperforming ministers from his cabinet.

In a statement on Saturday in Abuja, Ndume commended Tinubu’s recent cabinet restructuring, particularly the establishment of the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee all regional commissions.

He stated, “While the reshuffle last week was a masterstroke, more action is needed as some ministers are still ‘missing in action.’”

He praised the creation of the new ministry, noting that it demonstrates the President’s commitment to streamlining governance and reducing costs.

Ndume encouraged Tinubu to continue his de-dollarisation efforts by positioning Nigeria to join the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

He said that this move could benefit Nigerian businesses, particularly those importing from China, by alleviating reliance on the U.S. dollar and easing pressure on the naira.

Additionally, he urged Tinubu to convene a national economic conference, led by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the National Economic Adviser, and prominent Nigerian economists, to develop local solutions for the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, former APC presidential aspirant Chief Charles Udeogaranya criticised Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle, describing it as ineffective and poorly executed.

He expressed concern over the lack of productive brainstorming within the economic team, urging the president to make substantial changes and bring in leaders with strong skills to improve Nigeria’s economy.
