NEDC trains, empowers 455 Adamawa youths with various skills

The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), has trained and empowered 455 youths and women in various skills between Jan. and Oct. 2024 in Adamawa.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the commission, Mr. Mohammed Goni, said this on Tuesday in Yola while presenting starter parks to 40 beneficiaries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the recent beneficiaries were trained on renewable energy, fabrication of energy efficient stoves for women and briquette production.

According to Goni, the aim of the exercise is to empower beneficiaries and boost human capacity development in the state and the region.

Goni, represented by Hajiya Fatima Bakari, NEDC’s Acting coordinator in Adamawa, urged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge they acquired into practice by making judicious use of the parks.

“We want you to use these equipment judiciously to add value to yourselves and your respective communities.

“You should also not sell them off because, we want you to apply these skills acquired into practice in order to boost the nation,s economy,” he said.

Goni further explained that other beneficiaries were trained in climate change adaptation, waste collection and recycling of waste plastic as well as watershed management.

Dr Mary Paninga, Chairman Adamawa Planning Commission said, the empowerment was timely for the beneficiaries to be self-employed and employers of labour.

Paninga, represented by Hassana Yakubu, Principal Planning Officer, urged the beneficiaries to make efficient use of the starter parks for the betterment of the society.

Muhammad Adamu, one of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of the others, expressed appreciation to NEDC, and assured the commission that they would make judicious use of the equipment.

He also promised that they would extend their training to other non beneficiaries.

NAN reports that those trained in renewable energy received solar panels and tools box while those trained in briquette production/ energy efficient stoves fabrication, received welding, crushing and molding machines among other accessories.
