• Officials inspect power installations Officials of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) have begun inspection of electrical fittings and installations carried out in homes to ensure strict compliance with basic safety rules.
The inspection, which is part of fresh measures to check the rising cases of electrical accidents in the country, is coming as NEMSA announced its intention to outlaw the use of wooden poles by the nation’s electricity distribution companies.
NEMSA is also collaborating with the Fire Service to check the incidences of fire out breaks in homes, and to ensure proper investigation whenever any such occurs.
Managing Director of NEMSA, Peter Ewesor, who made these known during a chat with journalists in Abuja, said the agency would continue its national monitoring and evaluation of networks at the distribution sub-sector of the power sector.
He announced that the agency was also collaborating with Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) in ensuring effective enforcement of standards in electrical materials.
“We are also concerned about homes, because when you have done your bad wiring, it is injurious and will cause accident. For instance, you find somebody using 2.5MM wire for the air conditioning system.
