The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market to the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC).
The Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy to the Niger State governor, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, disclosed this on his social media handle, X, hinting that this significant development marks a new chapter in the state’s approach to managing its energy resources.
The S.A. to the governor added that Governor Mohammed Bago had stressed that this transition in electricity management is a major victory for the people of Niger State, empowering the state to take charge of its own electricity system.
Abdullberqy said that following the recent decisions made, this move would bring governance closer to the communities it affects.
He noted that the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC) will now be responsible for overseeing the electricity market, repositioning Niger State to pursue greater energy independence and stability.
Ebbo, however, revealed that this change will enable the state to implement policies and initiatives tailored to agricultural production, food security, and job creation, ultimately leading to improved livelihoods for the people.
