NGC set to reclaim its pipelines right of way
Obaseki woos investors with power, human capital, others
The Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) Limited has pledged to embark on reclamation of its pipeline right of way from those who have already encroached on the land, appealing for cooperation from its host communities.
NGC said that it was against the standard practice for individuals to either farm or build on its pipeline right of way, stressing that it was dangerous for people to do business on pipelines right of way, as it was a punishable offence.
Managing Director of NGC, Warri, Seyi Omotowa, who spoke at the palace of the Ojuromi of Uromi, Zaiki Anslem Edonojie, during a sensitisation campaign on dangers of encroaching on the gas pipeline right of way and vandalism, said the practice was dangerous, as it had led to the loss of lives, property, and destruction of the environment.
He said that the sensitisation campaign was necessitated by obvious encroachment on the gas pipeline right of way in most of their host communities, adding that NGC in no distant time will embark on reclamation of its pipeline right of way from those who have already encroached on the land to avoid loss of life.
While urging cooperation and understanding of the host communities at ensuring the safety of NGC facilities in their areas, Omotowa, who was represented by the Public Affairs Manager of NGC, Darlington Samuel, appealed to the monarch to prevail on his subjects, who have already built on the pipeline right of way to remove such structures.
The Esele of Uromi, Chief Innocent Ehichioya, who spoke on behalf of Edonojie, assured management of NGC of the host communities’ cooperation.
MEANWHILE, Governor Godwin Obaseki has charged investors to exploit the offerings of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) to leverage the state’s competitive advantage in energy supply and human capital assets and set up industries in the state.
The governor said this in commemoration of this year’s Africa Industrialisation Day, marked by the United Nations and its sister agencies.
Governor Obaseki stressed that the Ossiomo Independent Power Plant (IPP) located at an industrial corridor, among other incentives would resolve the perennial challenges faced by companies, making the state an investors’ delight.
“As we mark the African Industrialisation Day, it is pertinent to inform investors that Edo State is the best place to do business and set up industries. We have stable electricity in the Sapele Road axis that would provide industries with 24-hour electricity,” he said.
