The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has condoled Plateau State government over the killings in Kanam and Wase local councils of the state in recent times.

The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said the body commiserated with the government and the people of the state over the recent murder of over 100 people by terrorists in the two councils.

Fayemi, who was at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on behalf of the NGF, condemned the murder of the innocent citizens by the terrorists, saying it was another attempt to destroy the efforts put in by the Lalong Rescue Administration to consolidate peace and security in the state.

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Plateau Governor, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, quoted Fayemi as saying that the NGF was outraged over the killings and would continue to do everything possible to support Lalong to overcome the situation and deal with those who are bent on causing chaos in the state, which is a natural destination of choice to many.

The chairman announced a donation of N50m by NGF to assist in meeting the needs of the victims and those displaced.

Fayemi also condoled Lalong over the death of the Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr. Simon Harry, who died recently but was buried on Friday in Jos at the age of 57.

Responding, Lalong said that he was delighted to receive the chairman of the NGF, who had come on behalf of the other governors to commiserate with the people and government of Plateau State.

Lalong said that the state was devastated by the incident, which was sheer act of criminality and another desperate attempt by merchants of crises to take the state back to the dark days.

He assured that government had beefed up security across the state aside directing that all those involved be arrested and brought to book.

The governor thanked the NGF for the donation and specifically commended Fayemi for his leadership, which is pragmatic, compassionate and focused.

Similarly, a 17-year-old herder, Buhari Muhammad, has been killed around Rangyel community in Bassa Local Council, Plateau State. Four cows were also killed during the incident.

Plateau Chairman, Gan Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), Abdullahi Garba, disclosed this, yesterday. According to him, the police recovered the body of the deceased.

The incident occurred few days after two members of the Irigwe ethnic group were killed in an attack on the convoy of the member representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Musa Agah.

Garba said that Muhammad was attacked when he took his cattle to graze.

However, Plateau Police PRO, ASP Gabriel Ogaba, said that he had not been briefed on the incident.

Meanwhile, a Non – Governmental Organization (NGO) in Jos, Conflict Management Mitigation Regional Council (CMMRC), Plateau State Chapter, a Community Initiative to Promote Peace (CIPP) project, has condemned the recent attacks and wanton killings in Kanam Council of Plateau State, where 10 villages were sacked leaving no fewer than 100 people dead.

The council, in a statement, yesterday, its Secretary, Comrade Sadeeq Musa Hongs, condemned in totality the gruesome attacks and senseless killings, destruction of farm produce and the killing of animals, particularly the killings of elderly persons, women, children and massive abduction.

The CMMRC, therefore, called on the state government to swiftly swing into action to investigate the ugly incidents of the unlawful killings of innocent citizens and bring them to justice.
