THE Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has provided procurement monitors with a list of 117 Almajiri Schools being constructed by the Federal Government.

However, the Public and Private Development Company (PPDC), alleged that the number of schools listed contradicts the number presented by the then Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

PPDC stated, “According to the minister, the Federal Government planned to construct 124 Almajiri Schools; 85 of which had been constructed while 39 were still under construction. Given the disparity in the figures provided by the UBEC and those provided by the Minister of Education, it is not clear if the Federal Government made provision for 124 schools or 117 schools.”
