NGO tasks FG, others to protect women against sexual abuse
Government, organisations and individuals have been admonished to ensure that women and girls are protected against sexual abuses.
The Convener, Relate Africa, Bridget Ituseli, gave this charge at a sensitization programme put together by her foundation, which focuses on market women and girls. She also tasked members of National and State Assemblies to make laws that would give stiffer punishment for convicted rapists saying such would assist in eradicating the menace in the society.
According to the convenor, represented by the creative director of Relate Africa, Owumei Ituseli, for us to progress as a nation we need to eliminate the wealth disparity in the country, as women are usually easy targets.
Ituseli called on governments at all levels, NGOs and individuals to partner with the NGOs to focus on the women on the street and assist them to take up the projects, empower them, watch them grow and transform the world. “Corporate entities should adopt market women, nurture them and see them as theirs. If we can do these we will begin to shift the narrative and dispel entitlement among individuals,” she said.
