
The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb), the Premier Arbitration and ADR institute in sub-Saharan Africa with over 44 years of existence and operations, at its 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, elected members of its governing Council.
According to a statement signed by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NICArb, Shola Oshodi-John, nine distinguished members of the institute’s Governing Council were re-elected for another tenure of one year, while eight new members were elected for two years.
The election was conducted during its meeting, which was held at the Raddison Blu Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos State.The re-elected members include Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, as President and Chairman of the Council; Damian D. Dodo; Prof. Taiwo Osipitan; Jude T. U. Nnodum; Mike Igbokwe; Omoruyi Augustine Omonuwa; Priscilla Ogwemoh; Adebayo Adenipekun, and Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Shola Oshodi-John.
New members elected are Rafiu A. Lawal-Rabana; Uche Val Obi; Damilola Olawuyi; Justice Rita Pemu; Francis Ohiwere Oleghe, who is the General Secretary; Sebastine Hon; Rosecana Ankama; Kashim Abdul Alli.
The President, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, reported that in 2023 the institute had a robust increase of 23 per cent over 2022 revenue, and the ADR Centre handled arbitration matters claims total is N3,720,900,000 and $105,000,000. As part of its strategy for 2023, NICArb broadened its reach and deepened its roots across Nigeria by establishing the Abuja liaison office, creating a full-fledged branch in Kano State.
Furthermore, it expanded its training programmes and enhanced its service options. This enabled the institute to invest strategically in key areas to make an impact in the industry. He urged the council members to be committed to the institute and do their best to maintain and surpass the current admirable growth of the institute.
