Niger lawmaker urges FG to complete Baro Port dredging

A member of the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Nurudeen Mohammed, has urged the Federal Government to complete the dredging of the Baro Port in the state.

The lawmaker made the call on Tuesday at the inauguration of the House Committee on Investment, Commerce and Industry at the State Assembly Complex‎.

Mohammed, who is the Chairman of the Committee, said that the completion of the port would boost commercial activities in the state and create employments for youths.

He added that “I call on the Federal Government to as a matter of necessity, complete the dredging of the Baro port.

“If the port is completed, it will surely boost commercial activities and generate employment opportunities for our youths.’’

The lawmaker said that the Committee would synergise with the Ministry of Investment and Commerce to make the state an investor’s haven. In her remarks, the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Hajiya Ramatu Yar’Adua, urged the House to formulate enabling laws that would provide incentives for investors.

She said “we must provide the enabling laws and infrastructure that would encourage anyone who wishes to invest in our state.

“In order to be where we want to be, there is need to provide laws that will boost confidence and protect investors‎,” she added.

Yar’Adua noted that‎ the Committee was vital in the actualisation of government vision on wealth creation and employment generation. Meanwhile, members of the Committee include Hon.

Nurudeen Mohammed as Chairman, Hon. Binta Mamman, Hon. Mohammed Haruna, Hon. Isah Mohammed, Hon. Mohammed Lokogoma and Hon. Murtala Badaru.
