The Legislative Council of Bosso Local Government Area in Niger State has suspended its Chairman, Hon. Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso, over allegations of gross misconduct.
Bosso, the only female council chairman among the 25 councils in the state and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is currently serving her second term, having previously been elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
She becomes the second council chairman to be suspended in recent months, following the removal of the Chanchaga council chairman. Their tenures are due to expire in November 2025.
In a communiqué dated Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the Legislative Council stated that the suspension was carried out pursuant to the provisions of the Local Government Laws of Niger State and after due process.
“At its duly convened sitting, the Bosso Local Government Legislative Council considered a motion on allegations of gross misconduct against the Chairman of Bosso Local Government Council, Hon. Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso. Upon deliberation, and in strict compliance with the law, a vote was taken. Out of the total membership of the Council, seven councillors, constituting the statutory three-fourths (3/4) majority, voted in favour of suspension,” the communiqué read.
The allegations against Bosso include abuse of office, violation of local government laws, financial impropriety, harassment, extortion and intimidation, failure to convene statutory council meetings, and other acts described as gross misconduct.
The council resolved that the suspension takes immediate effect and has formally notified the Governor of Niger State for the constitution of an investigative committee to probe the allegations and submit its findings within the stipulated period.
