Niger State Government has disclosed that arrangements have reached the advanced stage for the re-introduction of monthly sanitation exercises across the state.
Director General, Niger State Environmental Protection Agency (NISEPA), Dr Abubakar Mohammed, gave the hint in a chat with The Guardian in his Minna office, yesterday.
Mohammed noted that in the last six months, his agency and the Ministry of Environment had been working round-the-clock to revive the sanitation exercise.
The NISEPA boss had explained that Governor Mohammad Bago directed the agency to work out the modalities for the effective take-off of the exercise.
“In a short while, the governor will announce the re-introduction of sanitation. He has such powers to pronounce it; so, any time soon, he will do that,” the DG said.
He also revealed that in the last six months, the state government had purchased equipment worth over N1.2 billion to enable NISEPA to deliver.
“For us to remain a relevant agency in the state, we must contribute our quota in terms of revenue generation. The agency is service-driven; therefore, for us to generate funds, we have to provide services. What we are doing now is to improve our services,” he said.
He advised the public to dispose of their refuse appropriately and be vigilant in the way they interact.
