ADC viable alternative for Nigerians facing economic hardship, insecurity, says Nwankwo
Former Minister of State for Health and a Chieftain of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Engr. Fidelis Nwankwo, has framed the party as a viable alternative for Nigerians facing economic hardship, insecurity, and political stagnation, saying that Nigerians know what do during the forthcoming general elections.
Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, Nwankwo noted that the first question Nigerians have to ask themselves is, are we better off today than before 2023 and if the answer is no, we are telling them that we have an alternative now that can change things, insisting that the ADC is the alternative to change the narrative.
He called on Nigerians to consider an alternative leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing escalating costs of essential commodities, deteriorating public services, and persistent security threats as indicators of governance shortcomings under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Nwankwo pointed to the rising cost of living as evidence of economic mismanagement with price increases in health and energy sector, saying that if you have diabetic patients, drugs that were selling for 2,500 naira, now it’s 15,000 naira, asthma inhalers that were 9,000 naira now cost 13,000 naira and fuel sells at 1,400 naira per litre.
He attributed these economic pressures to structural weaknesses, ineffective policy implementation, and systemic inefficiencies, which he said disproportionately affect average Nigerian households.
Nwankwo warned that without adequate social safety nets, the trend could undermine human development and long-term national stability adding that with figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi and others Nigeria will be restore back to his glory.
He argued that the ADC is positioned to capitalize on this momentum with a governance model focused on transparency, accountability, and participatory politics.
On security, Nwankwo highlighted ongoing threats from terrorism, insurgency, and lawlessness, particularly in regions such as Borno State, where he noted several local governments remain under terrorist control.
He linked these challenges to poor policy execution, corruption, and insufficient political will, advocating for an integrated approach to national security under an ADC-led administration.
Looking beyond the presidency, Nwankwo said the ADC aims to secure legislative and gubernatorial positions to enable coherent policy implementation across federal and state levels.
“We need senators and House of Reps who will make laws under him. We need governors. When we say, what’s the name of the man? He’s not doing well, automatically it means that the governors under him are not doing well,” he said.
But in a quick response, the media Aide to the Ebonyi state Chairman of All Progressive Congress Chief Chijioke Agwu dismissed the claims, said that Nigeria under President Tinubu has witnessed tremendous infrastructural and economic development, asking Nigerians to stick with the APC in the forthcoming election.
Though, Agwu emphasised the need for a credible opposition party but definitely not the ADC, describing them as a gathering of failed politicians who have held political positions in the past and yet they failed the people.
“All those politicians in the ADC have held political positions, some were governors, senators, ministers and even vice president, what significant change did they do during their time?,” he asked.
“My happiness is that the people are much wiser now, they cannot be fooled, the transformation going on throughout the country shows an indication of good governance and I am sure that Nigerians will make the best decision.
“Here in Ebonyi State, the government of Francis Nwifuru has shown capacity, competence and judicious utilisation of funds in providing the needed infrastructural development and I am sure that the people will replicate the gesture in the 2027 general election.
