Nigeria remains gateway to Africa’s future – Jidda

The Consul-General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, has said that Nigeria remains the gateway to Africa’s socio economic growth and development.

Speaking at the summit on Economic, Trade, Investment, and Cultural Exchange, held as a sideline event of the recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Jidda urged participants to view Nigeria as a gateway to Africa’s future, citing the country’s youthful population, abundant natural resources, and strategic location.

The summit, convened by Newday International in collaboration with the United Nations Commutech Group, US African Eye, and the Nigerian Progressive Professionals in the Diaspora, along with the All Progressives Congress (APC) USA/Committee of Diaspora Chairmen (CDC), took place at World Plaza, Whitestone, New York. It attracted notable dignitaries, including government officials, business leaders, and global investors, who explored economic, trade, and investment opportunities across Africa, the U.S., and China.

Prof. Tai Balofin, President/CEO of Newday International, and Andy Lin of the United Nations Commutech, alongside key global stakeholders, policymakers, and investors from Nigeria, China, the U.S., and beyond, participated in discussions addressing global economic challenges and forming synergies for solutions.

In a statement, Balofin noted that the summit would pave the way for transformational projects benefiting not only Nigeria and Africa but also the global community.

“This summit has not only strengthened relationships between nations but has opened new avenues for mutual economic growth and global collaboration,” he said.

The summit focused on critical sectors such as Oil and Gas, Aviation, Energy, Rail Transportation, Waterways, Power, Maritime, and Agriculture, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development and cross-border partnerships.

Key speakers and award recipients were recognised for their contributions, including Senator Abdul Azeez Yari, who received the Global Man of the Year Award for his impactful leadership, and Prince Arthur Eze, honoured for his dedication to fostering economic growth across Africa.

The summit discussions also noted Nigeria’s growing economy and its potential to attract global investors, emphasising the Nigerian government’s efforts under President Bola Tinubu to create an investor-friendly environment through infrastructure investments and progressive policies aimed at economic stability and long-term growth.

Delivering a keynote address, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru stressed the importance of forging strong international partnerships for Africa’s economic transformation.

Dr. Fauziya Buhari-Ado, Special Assistant to the Governor of Kaduna State on School Feeding, presented on Kaduna State’s rich agricultural and mineral resources, calling on global investors to explore these opportunities. She highlighted the positive impact of the School Feeding Initiative on children’s lives in rural areas and its role in driving local economic growth through sustainable farming practices.

The event was enriched by cultural performances celebrating the diversity of China, Africa, and America, creating a vibrant atmosphere that underscored the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening economic ties.

Among the dignitaries who attended the landmark event were Sheikh Bala Lau and his team, as well as the First Lady of Osun State, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke, among others.
