Nigeria will be better with right leadership, says Kano monarch

EMIR of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has expressed optimism that things will, once again, get better in the country. The Kano monarch, accompanied by the Dein of Agbor Kingdom, Dr. Benjamin Ikenchukwu, Keagborekuzi I, stated this, yesterday, when he visited Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at Government House, Asaba.

Bayero said: “The talks of disunity in the country is something we can sit down and talk about because we have done it before and we succeeded.

“As a traditional institution, we believe that the government cannot be blamed for everything because everyone has a role to play.”

He urged politicians to encourage their followers to be of good behaviour while calling on the people to go for what is good in the interest of the country.

According to him, the visit to the state was to cement the age-long relationship between Kano and Delta states. His words: “This visit is to develop the special relationship that exists between Kano and Delta states. Be assured of our support and prayers of success in your political career.

“Let us believe in ourselves and be honest with one another. If we take that into consideration, we all know that the differences between us are less than what we share together.”

Governor Okowa, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate, hinted that “Nigeria needs men and women of goodwill, who will see the various parts as one.”

The country, Okowa explained, is in dire need of leaders, who would see the strength in the nation’s diversity, rather than use it to divide its peoples.

Bayero’s visit to Delta is the kind of relationship that would help unite and bring peace to the country, he said, and called on Nigerians to see themselves as brothers, irrespective of the diversity.

Okowa said: “We are truly very excited that you found time to be in Delta to pay a condolence visit to our brother, Nduka Obaigbena, and the Olu of Warri on his first coronation anniversary.

“This is actually the kind of relationship we look forward to in our nation, Nigeria; a relationship that builds bridges across this nation and makes us realise that we are one people.”
