PSC to monitor conduct of police officers
Eleven out of the 16 governorship candidates participating in the June 18, 2022 Ekiti State election, yesterday, signed a peace accord, pledging to maintain peace before, during and after the polls.

This was just as the chairman, National Peace Commission (NPC), Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd), appealed to the people of the state to live up to the ideals of integrity and honour to guarantee a free, fair and credible election.

Abubakar, who was represented at the signing of the peace accord by the convener, National Peace Committee, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, therefore, urged the electorate to be patient and conduct themselves orderly while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials must ensure that no obstacles are placed on the path of the people and Nigerians.

Also, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the intervention of NPC had contributed in no small measure to the peace in the country.

He said no credible election could be achieved in a violent process, saying that INEC will give transparent and credible polls.

In his remarks, Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Adejuwon, said Obas in the state would not tolerate any bloodshed during the polls, urging Ekiti people to vote without violence.

MEANWHILE, the Police Service Commission (PSC), yesterday, said it had sent a high-powered delegation to the state to monitor the conduct of personnel posted on electoral duties for the governorship polls on Saturday.

The PSC, in a statement made available by its Head of Press and Information, Ikechukwu Ani, listed 08065265651, 08072981057 and 08033345362 as telephone numbers for the public to call and report any misconduct by police officers.

The commission, therefore, implored police officers on electoral duty in the state to operate within the confines of the law and rules of engagement.
