Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has charged the Ogun Security Network code name Amotekun corps to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, respect for human rights and commitment to duty.
Abiodun stated this at the state’s Command of the Amotekun in Oke-Ilewo during the inauguration of 16 operational vehicles for the Corps. Represented by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Dr Toyin Taiwo, he disclosed that his administration is committed to the safety of the life and property of Ogun citizens, noting that security is the bedrock of any meaningful development.
He urged the operatives to navigate the challenges of modern policing, adding that the operatives should embrace collaboration with other security agencies in tackling crime in the state, especially in the area of intelligence gathering, community policing and rapid response operations.
According to him, providing the operational vehicles symbolise his unwavering dedication to a safer Ogun State. He said: “However, beyond the tools and the equipment, the effectiveness of our security operatives lies in the discipline, professionalism, and intelligence of the officers who operate them.
“I therefore charge members of the Amotekun operatives to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, respect for human rights and their commitment to duty.
“The Amotekun, as a critical arm of our security apparatus, has continued to play a pivotal role in completing the efforts of other sister security agencies in tackling crime, particularly in the area of intelligence gathering, community policing and rapid response operations.
“Your uniform is a symbol of trust and so do not betray the trust and confidence the public reposed in you. Earn the people’s trust and you will get more of their support.”
According to him, the strength of Amotekun lies in gathering local intelligence, remaining vigilant, collaborating with the local community leaders and reporting suspicious activities promptly. He warned that the state has zero tolerance for abuse, adding that the operatives are not expected to abuse their uniforms while on duty.
“The uniform confers on you trust that must never be betrayed. Security is not about oppression; neither is it an opportunity to extort or harass the people or abuse powers given to you as an operative of the Amotekun,” he declared.
Speaking earlier, the state Commandant of Amotekun, Brig-Gen, Alade Adedigba commended Abiodun for his support, especially for a donation of another 16 operational vehicles to enhance operations as well as approval of another 500 personnel to be recruited by the security network.
