Gombe flags off World Bank-assisted IDEAS for 40 STCs
House of Representatives member representing Hong/Gombi constituency in Adamawa State, Capt. Yusuf Buba (rtd), has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for releasing funds for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Hong Local Council.

Hong is the hometown of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
Speaking at the inauguration of clinical services at the facility, Yusuf, who sponsored the bill for the establishment of the hospital, said his desire to improve health services in Adamawa that motivated him to sponsor the bill.

According to the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, the hospital will reduce the stress of patients travelling over 100 kilometres to access health services from tertiary health institutions in Yola, Adamawa State.

The second term federal lawmaker also commended traditional rulers in Hong for their fatherly support and commitment for the establishment of FMC Hong.

He pointed out that with the take-off of clinical services, patients from Hong and neighbouring local councils, as well as economic activities in the area would also improve.

No fewer than 3,000 staff will be employed by the hospital, as the Federal Government earmarked over N2 billion in the 2023 budget for the expansion of the hospital, he disclosed.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Yakubu Nyandaiti, said the hospital would ease the difficulties faced by patient in Adamawa North Senatorial District, Borno State and parts of Chad and Cameroon, who share borders with the state.

GOMBE State government, yesterday, flagged off World Bank-assisted Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS).

Beneficiaries of the $200 million education project include the 22 federal 18 state Science and Technical Colleges (STCs) and STCs, three in each geopolitical zone.

The pilot states, which will get N1 billion each, are Gombe (North East,) Kano (North West), Benue (North Central,) Ekiti (South West,) Abia (South East) and Edo (South South). They are expected to revamp the colleges to prepare the students for self-reliance after graduation.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, at the event, listed his many intervention programmes to revive education sector in the state.

Represented by his deputy, Manassah Jattau, the governor said the youths suffered long enough in the hands of successive governments that allegedly exploited their vulnerability and use them as political touts.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Aishatu Maigari, commended the governor for his foresight in rescuing the state from looming violence in the abandoned youths.
She, however, said IDEAS “will reduce graduate unemployment and strengthen their technical skills.”

According to her, the project will not only rehabilitate chosen STCs but procure modern tools, as well as retrain teachers in those schools, listing STCs Kumo, Tula and Gombe as chosen schools for the training of North East indigenes willing to key into the project.
