Buhari to Nigerians: Security isn’t for law enforcement agencies alone, be vigilant

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, called on Nigerians not to abandon security duties for law enforcement agencies alone, else, security challenges would worsen.

Buhari asked Nigerians to be vigilant and maintain sense of duty towards security of their environment, insisting that his administration would tame widespread insecurity before the end of this year.

Represented by the Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, the president made this known while speaking at the 2022 Olojo Festival held at Ile-Ife palace, Osun State.

He said: “If you abandon security duties to law enforcement agencies alone, then our security would be worse. All of us should have a sense of duty towards security. Government will do its part and where we still have security breaches, government will take care of it.”

Governor Gboyega Oyetola, said the significance of the festival was in tandem with the philosophy of his administration, adding that the state economy should be repositioned by giving a boost to cultural-tourism promotion with a view to driving meaningful youth employment, creating wealth, and preserving the cultural heritage, among others. 

Oyetola, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of the state, Benedict Alabi, congratulated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi on the occasion.

The governor said: “The significance of this festival is in tandem with the philosophy of our administration, as we strongly believe that state economy should be repositioned by giving a boost to cultural-tourism promotion with a view to driving meaningful youth employment, creating wealth, and preserving our cultural heritage, among others.” 

The Are crown, which represented the highlight of the well attended festival, was worn by the Ooni amid gunshots and cultural displays. The monarch’s wife, Queen Mariam Ogunwusi and other dignitaries were present at the event.
