The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has vacated the remand order issued against Reno Omokri, a bestselling author and former presidential spokesman, following an appeal filed by his legal team.

Omokri’s lawyers, Osa Director and Co., had challenged the remand order issued by a magistrate court. In the appeal, marked CRA/2/2025, they sought a stay of execution. When the case came up for hearing on January 30, 2025, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna ordered Omokri’s name to be removed from the First Information Report (FIR).

The legal dispute reportedly stemmed from comments made by Omokri concerning Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre. Omokri had publicly criticized Enenche’s involvement in political discussions during the 2023 general elections. He argued that religious leaders should refrain from partisan politics.

During the elections, Pastor Enenche had urged his congregation to vote for a specific candidate. Omokri contended that this violated the principles of neutrality expected from religious organizations registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission. He also referenced the Companies Income Tax Act, which grants tax-exempt status to religious institutions solely for ecclesiastical, charitable, or educational purposes.

Additionally, Omokri criticized statements made by Pastor Enenche’s wife, Becky Enenche, regarding tithing. He argued that her claims about missed tithes affecting financial prosperity were not supported by Scripture.

Omokri’s legal team has stated that he is prepared to defend his stance in court should the case proceed further.
