The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Friday, departed the ancient city of Kano amid speculation surrounding the emirship tussle in the state. Bayero departed the Nassarawa mini palace for the first time in three months, where he maintained a ‘sit tight’ stay to challenge his removal by the Kano State government.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, reinstated Mohammadu Sanusi II as 16th emir of Kano in May this year after assenting to a new Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, which dissolved Bayero’s and four others’ thrones.

Although there was no official statement to disclose whether Bayero’s departure was on medical or official visit, unofficial sources said he might have left for Abuja to attend the inauguration of the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice K. Kekere-Ekun.

At the Nassarawa palace, along State Road, a few meters away from Government House, there were security operatives including military personnel mounting surveillance.

Meanwhile, a close relation to Bayero, who pleaded for anonymity, told The Guardian that the 15th emir left for a private visit outside the state.

He dispelled the rumour that Bayero has finally left the emirship battle for Sanusi. Incidentally, Sanusi also departed Nigeria for a private business in the United Kingdom.
