Ex-commissioner faults channelling Abia’s 80 per cent resources to recurrent, overhead

Describes state as sleeping giant crying for redemption
Former Abia State Finance Commissioner, Mr. Obinna Oriaku, has vented his anger against the state government’s alleged practice of channelling about eight per cent of her entire receipts to recurrent and overhead expenditure and paltry two per cent to capital expenditure.

Oriaku, who has declared his intention to run for governorship of the state on the APC platform in the 2023, told The Guardian, yesterday, that his warning against the practice during his four years as the finance commissioner was yet to be effected before the end of his tenure.

“I had frowned at the scenario that the current system of governance in the state cannot support her worthy growth and development.”

He attributed the scenario to poor state’s leadership, which, he said, impacted negatively on infrastructures and other facilities that delayed the state’s development and, consequently, turned it not only into a ghost of its former self, but a sleeping giant, crying for urgent redemption.

Asked what magic he will perform to salvage or redeem the state for the better, he disclosed that his quest to become the state governor was inspired and motivated by the urge to address the foreseen management lapses.

He said, “I will enthrone honest and sincere leadership to make Abia great again if elected governor. I would partner with good spirited Abians in order to usher in a lasting economic solution with attendant enforcement that would push the policies to fruition.”

“I shall ensure equitable distribution of the state commonwealth among the citizenry, through veritable vistas of development that would halt her further deterioration.”
