Kaduna cleric, Buru, leads prayers for peace, unity in Nigeria

The General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Sabon-Tasha, Kaduna, Pastor Yohanna Buru, at the weekend, led a unity and peace prayer session amid thousands of Muslims and Christians to mark Nigeria’s 62nd Independence celebration in Kaduna.

The cleric, who spoke at the event, organised by the coalition of community-based security organisations of Nigeria in Kaduna (Coalition of JTF) and held at the Sultan Bello Eid praying-ground, emphasised the need for Muslims and Christians to strengthen good relationship and neighbourliness so as to promote peaceful co-existence among the adherence of the different religions.

He said that it had become imperative to encourage people of different faith to learn how to live in peace and harmony and tolerate each other to foster peace in the society.

Hundreds of paramilitary and other civil security organisations were in attendance, including the Catholic Cadet, Peace Corps, Hisba from Kano, Boys Brigade, Hunters Association of Nigeria, other private security organisations and vigilante groups.

According to Buru, it is a great privilege and opportunity for a Christian pastor to lead prayer at Sultan Bello Eid ground, adding that the peace and unity parade would strengthen good relationship between Christians and Muslims in northern part of the country.

Besides, the Public Relations Officer of the Coalition of the JTF, Sunusi Surajo, said: “Every year, the coalition used to organise national prayers to mark Nigeria’s Independent.”

According to him, the aim is to strengthen Christians and Muslims’ relations for peace and stability in the country.
