The state’s Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, who stated this during the 2024 Pensioners’ Week celebration, held in Ikeja, stressed that the event was very important, as it provides opportunity to acknowledge and reflect on the dedication, hard work, selfless service and sacrifices of the senior citizens while in active service and after their glorious exit from the public service.

He also said that the event offers an avenue to express gratitude in this regard, by setting aside a week to always appreciate and celebrate the genuine and invaluable continuous contributions of the senior citizens to their various communities, which in turn, is complementing government’s efforts in the development of the state.

Agoro added that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, through the Office of the Head of Service, had put in place various initiatives that would ensure continuous physical and psychological engagement of the retirees to keep them active at all times, as well as improve their quality of life.

Besides, he said the administration had strengthened its partnership with healthcare providers, particularly the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), to ensure that pensioners have access to quality medical care.

In his remarks, Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Babalola Obilana, said the pensioners’ week celebration was not just a ceremonial event but also an opportunity to acknowledge the enduring legacy of the retired public servants.

RELATEDLY, Sanwo-Olu has restated his administration’s commitment to sustaining and building road connectivity that would enhance lives and promote prosperity.

He stated this, yesterday, during the commissioning of the newly constructed Abiola Onijemo Link Road with Bridge at Ifako-Ijaiye Local Council, imploring the residents to protect the project from being damaged.

The governor said the project was aimed at bringing about economic benefits to the citizens and make life more meaningful to them as they enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He expressed optimism that the project would help to provide lasting solutions to the consistent flooding around Abiola Onijemo area of the state. Earlier, the governor had commissioned the Alapere pedestrian bridge that was reconstructed in Kosofe Local Council after it was damaged by a truck.

MEANWHILE, the governor has implored landlords and landowners in the state to resist the temptation of increasing rents and cost of land due to development projects executed across the state by his administration. He stated this while commissioning the link bridge in Ifako- Ijaiye Local Council of the state.
