Man drowns retrieving phone from well, police search for two missing persons

The Ogun State Police Command has reported the tragic death of 31-year-old Sunday Jimoh, a resident of Laditan Area, Oja-Odan. The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred on February 22, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., and was reported by Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere, a resident of Junction Area, Oja-Odan.

Ayigbere stated that he witnessed the deceased attempting to enter a well beside his shop. According to him, Jimoh insisted on retrieving a phone that had accidentally fallen into the well, despite warnings against the dangerous act. Regrettably, while Ayigbere was away, Jimoh entered the well and drowned.

Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly responded to the scene, and rescue experts were contacted to recover the body. A preliminary investigation found no signs of violence, confirming the incident was an unfortunate accident.

The police have notified the deceased’s family, who requested to bury the remains in accordance with Muslim rites.

“The Ogun State Police Command expresses its deep condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and urges the public to exercise caution when dealing with such hazardous situations,” the police stated.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has declared a 23-year-old woman, Habibat Abdulrafiu, missing.

The dark-complexioned woman, who speaks Yoruba and English fluently, was last seen leaving her home at No. 3, Asheshina Street, Odo-Kabiru Olosun, Itele-Ota, on February 20, 2025, at about 5:30 a.m. She has not returned home since then.

The police revealed that Abdulrafiu is mentally challenged and have urged anyone with information about her whereabouts, or who may find her, to contact the nearest police station.

Similarly, the Ilupeju Division of the Ogun State Police Command is seeking public assistance in locating a 48-year-old man, Adeola Jamiu. Jamiu, who is tall, slim, and dark-complexioned, speaks English and Yoruba fluently. He was last seen on February 20, 2025, at about 11:00 a.m.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, Jamiu left his home at Alamala Estate, Ayetoro Road, Abeokuta, at about 11:00 a.m. for his workplace at Obasanjo Farm, Ayetoro Road, Abeokuta, and has not returned home or been seen since.

“If you have any information about Jamiu’s disappearance or whereabouts, please contact the Ilupeju Division of the Ogun State Police Command,” Odutola stated.
