46-yr-old man arrested over viral assault video

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Abi Baragon, a 46-year-old male, in connection with a viral video that showed a lady crying out for help after being allegedly assaulted by the suspect.

The incident, which occurred on 20 June 2025, has been the subject of intense investigation by operatives of the Command.

A statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said that upon receipt of the distressing report, operatives attached to the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, swiftly swung into action, leveraging intelligence-led policing and technical support, saying the suspect was arrested on 13 October 2025 after a thorough investigation.

According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect’s motive for the assault allegedly stems from the victim’s rejection of his marriage overtures, prompted by her discovery that the suspect was already married with four children.

She said: “However, the suspect denied the allegation. During further interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment in the hospital. An in-depth investigation has been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the efforts of the operatives in apprehending the suspect and appreciates the public’s support and cooperation in sharing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest.

Adepoju reiterated his unwavering commitment to justice and warned perpetrators of crime that there is no hiding place for the wicked. The suspect will face prosecution upon conclusion of a discreet investigation.
