Afriland Tower Fire: five resuscitated, four still in coma

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has announced that out of nine casualties rescued from the fire at the six-storey building on Afriland Tower, Broad Street, Lagos Island, five individuals have been successfully resuscitated.

It added that though several other persons escaped unhurt, efforts are ongoing to resuscitate the remaining four individuals.

In a statement, Deputy Controller General, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ogabi Olajide, said that the service received a call at 13:38 hours, and fire crews from Ebute Elefun Fire Station and Sari Iganmu Fire Station responded.

He added that the fire originated in the inverter room located in the basement of the building, while smoke had spread across multiple floors and engulfed the structure.

It also stated that firefighting operations had been concluded, dousing the earlier panic before the arrival of the first responders.
