The 1997 set of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited Staff Comprehensive Secondary School has renovated the home economics laboratory of the institution and also donated items for usage by teachers and students.

The old students of the school on December 16, after careful assessment of the needs of the institution, decided to intervene by revamping the entire laboratory to improve learning at the place.

The old pupils donated items such as refrigerator, deep freezer, gas cylinder and gas cookers to the home economics laboratory as part of their efforts to support the development of the school.

Chairman of Ajaokuta Steel Company Secondary School Old Students Association 1997 set, Akoji Alex Yusuf, in his remarks during the inauguration of the upgraded laboratory said, “We want to ensure that our children are taught in a conducive environment with all necessary instructional materials that can reduce stress for the teacher and students.

“This is the beginning of many other benefits that will come to the school.”

Head of the Project Implementation Committee, Opey Akinlolu, stated that the upgraded facility will make practical teaching and learning interesting for staff and students of the school.

He said, “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the execution of this project. My firm believe is that education is far too important to be left for government alone to fund.

“This is a rallying cry on old student associations in Nigeria to give back to their alma maters.

“I enjoin the students to make the best use of the equipment donated and strive for excellence in their academic pursuit.
“We thank all members of the ASCSSOSA 1997 set that contributed in making the project a reality.”
