Amotekun condemns alleged abduction of operative by police in Oyo

THE Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has condemned what it described as the “Gestapo-style” abduction of one of its operatives, Amo Saheed Ajibola, by suspected officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Zone 11.
Ajibola was reportedly taken at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, while on duty at a static patrol point in the General Gas area of Akobo, Ibadan.

Reacting to the incident, the Oyo State Commandant of Amotekun, Col Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), criticised the manner of the arrest, stating that the agency maintains cordial working relations with other security bodies, including the police, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

He said that in cases involving its personnel, the corps has always complied with formal requests from relevant agencies and followed established procedures.

Olayanju maintained that if Ajibola was required for investigation, the appropriate step would have been to contact the Amotekun headquarters, particularly as the operative was on official duty at the time.

“Consequently, there was no reason whatsoever to justify the Gestapo-like action of the police officers from Zone 11, Osogbo. There is the need for the police to be civil in their approach by being mindful that all suspects have a right to know their offences and their fundamental rights should be respected during arrest,” he said.

The commandant also expressed concern that the manner of the operation could have provoked resistance, noting that the officers involved were reportedly in plain clothes and did not arrive in a marked police vehicle.
He described the approach as unbecoming and called for improved procedures to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and operational synergy.

As of press time, the corps said it had not received any official communication from the police regarding the operative’s arrest.
