The Police Command in Ondo has launched an investigation into the whereabouts of a two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.
DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Spokesperson, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, said efforts were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ayanlade, who did not give the names of the parents of the baby, also refuted the claim making the rounds that the father confessed to selling the baby after a thorough investigation.
”Yes, I can confirm the case of the missing of a two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, and the police have launched an investigation into the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding it,” Ayanlade said.
“I also want to refute the claim that the father of the baby has confessed to selling the baby. We are yet to conclude the investigation on this matter, and the baby has not yet been found.”
The incident happened around 9:00 pm on Monday at Gbeleju Quarters in Ode-Irele.
According to reports, the baby’s mother (name withheld) left the baby with her two-year-old sibling and quickly rushed to buy some stuff at a shop adjacent to her residence.
The mother came back, and the baby was nowhere to be found, as the two-year-old baby was unable to give a vivid account of the incident.
The mother raised an alarm, which attracted residents who gathered to sympathise with her.
