There is fear over the whereabouts of Miss Mercy Dauda, a 17-year-old Senior Secondary Three (SS3) female Federal Government Science and Technical College, Doma, Nasarawa State student.

The girl was reported missing on Thursday, August 15, after attending a Youth Catholic Student (YCS) convention at Madonna Girls College, Tudun Kauri, in Lafia Local Council of the state.

According to the parents, the girl went missing at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday after her classmate escorted her to board a tricycle (Keke-Napep) at Tudun Kauri junction for her destination in Sabon Pegi Lafia North. She has not been found since.

The parents, Mr and Mrs Sabina Philip Uwua, told The Guardian yesterday that they are worried about Mercy’s whereabouts after the convention ended on Thursday. “We are shocked because Mercy is never known to stay away from home except when she goes to school as a boarding student. She is a decent and disciplined girl who never leaves home except for church. I am very sure wherever Mercy is right now, she will be so worried about not knowing her whereabouts.

“The class teacher who insisted that Mercy attend the conference told us that she is one of the fellowship’s officials, a committed and dedicated youth noted for her quietness and decency.

He begged us that we should not stop her from participating. We have reported the matter to the police. We pray that God should spare and deliver Mercy wherever she is. We are worried and restless.” The parents appealed to anybody who knows her whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or the following numbers: 08064180405 and 08036929807.

At press time, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ranham Namsel, had yet to respond to enquiries on the matter.
