Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspect and recovered arms and other incriminating items in a foiled armed robbery operation in Agbor, Ika South Local Council.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, said the operation followed a distress call received in the early hours of April 4, 2026.
According to him, a resident of Full Current Compound in Alihame, Agbor, alerted the police about 4.47am, that a group of about eight armed men were attempting to forcefully gain entry into the premises.
“Acting swiftly on the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor mobilised and deployed the Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene,” Edafe stated.
The police spokesman explained that upon arrival, residents of the compound had already apprehended one of the suspects identified as Emeka Ernest, 41, from Ukpo in Anambra State. The encounter reportedly left the suspect bruised.
Edafe said the suspect was immediately taken into custody and rushed to the General Hospital in Agbor, for treatment under police watch.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one live cartridge from the suspect. Two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask, and a mobile phone were also recovered.
The police officer disclosed that a follow-up operation carried out on April 6, based on the suspect’s confession, led to the recovery of a locally fabricated single-barrel shotgun concealed near the scene in Alihame.
He noted that investigations were ongoing, adding that efforts had been intensified to apprehend other members of the gang, who reportedly fled the scene.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the prompt response and coordination by the DPO, as well as the swift action of the operatives.
He also praised the vigilance and courage of residents, whose intervention helped prevent the robbery attempt.
Oyeniyi, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
