Badagry-West LCDA vice chairman Nutayi dies weeks into tenure

Remilekun Nutayi, the newly elected female vice chairman of Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, has died, less than two months after assuming office.

The council’s Chief Press Secretary, Zosu Solomon, confirmed her death on Sunday in a statement, noting that Nutayi passed away on Saturday following a brief illness in Badagry.
“Nutayi’s passing, which occurred less than two months after assuming office, has left residents, political associates, and party faithful devastated,” Solomon said.
He recounted Nutayi’s professional trajectory, stressing her long-standing service to the community. “Before venturing into politics, she served as a dedicated teacher under the Lagos State Government, where she impacted countless lives. She later brought that same zeal into governance, distinguishing herself as Supervisor for Education in the Local Government, where she diligently discharged her duties with integrity and commitment.”

Solomon added that Nutayi had contested for the position of Chairman of Badagry-West LCDA during the last local government election, emphasizing her deep engagement with grassroots politics.
“She was a committed grassroots mobiliser and steadfast member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), widely admired for her humility, compassion, and drive for community development,” he said.
Born into the royal family of Apa Egun Awori Kingdom in Badagry, Nutayi was the daughter of Oba Oyekan Adekanmi, the Alapa of Apa. “Her life reflected discipline, respect for tradition, and a passion for the progress of her people,” Solomon said.

Council Chairman Rauf Yemaren described her death as “a monumental tragedy that has created a painful vacuum in leadership” and extended condolences to her family, the royal palace of Apa, and the entire Badagry community.
Nutayi is the third female elected administrator in Lagos State to die shortly after being sworn in this year. Earlier, Oluwakemi Rufai, a councillor in Ibeju Lekki, died barely two weeks after her swearing-in, while Zainab Shotayo, a female councillor from Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, also passed away a few days later.
