The Executive Secretary of Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Mohammed Sheiduon, on Wednesday said that the recent tragic attacks and killings in Benue State remind us of the fragility of peace and the urgent need for a strong and responsive policing system that can both deter and respond swiftly to such
threats.
Sheiduon stated this during the commissioning of the Smart Divisional Police Headquarters in Akeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, built by the Trust Fund. He extended his deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by the recent attacks.
He maintained that violence against innocent Nigerians, whether driven by communal tensions, criminality, or insurgent activity, must never be normalised
He noted that the Division is a clear, strategic investment in the future of policing and community safety in this region and across our nation, stressing, stating that what we are commissioning today is not just a police station but a modern symbol of state presence, rule of law, and public service.
Sheiduon further added that the project presents the Trust Fund’s unwavering commitment to providing the Police Force with infrastructure that meets the realities of contemporary security challenges, saying that the siting of this Divisional Headquarters in Akeze is strategic.
He extended his sincere appreciation to Mr. President for his steadfast commitment to the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector General of Police, noting that their leadership and support are crucial in driving the reforms and infrastructural development we are witnessing today.
He also acknowledged Governor Francis Nwifuru for his unwavering support and collaboration in making this project a reality, stressing that his commitment to security and development in the state has provided the enabling environment necessary for our intervention.
He charged officers that will be stationed there to use it with diligence and uphold the trust placed in them, adding that the Nigeria Police Trust Fund will continue to invest in infrastructure, equipment, training, and welfare across the six geopolitical zones.
His words: “The Nigeria Police Trust Fund exists precisely for this reason—to close the gaps in resources, training, equipment, and infrastructure that limit police effectiveness.
“When we fund the police adequately, we do not just build facilities; we strengthen our collective security, preserve human lives, and reinforce national unity.
“This project is part of a broader mission to build a modern police force that is responsive, technology-driven, and respected both locally and globally.”
Speaking, Governor Nwifuru, represented by the deputy governor, Mrs. Patricia Obila, thanked the Trust Fund for this intervention, saying that it will assist in reducing crimes and other hostilities.
She noted that the state government has done well in assisting the Command to fight crime, adding that they have given operational vehicles to them and built police stations across the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, said that it was an honour to welcome the new Divisional Station at Akaeze, saying that it will assist the Command to strengthen its operations within the area.
She drew the attention of everyone to the fact that the new Division does not have a patrol vehicle, adding that many of their stations across the state are dilapidated and need urgent renovation.
