The 10th Cross River State House of Assembly Friday said it has passed 30 bills and 83 resolutions within the last two years.
Speaker of the assembly, Rt Hon. Elvert Ayambemm, stated this at a sitting to mark the end of the first session of the 10th Assembly in Calabar.
Rt Hon Ayambem described the 10th Assembly as one of the best due to its laudable achievements in the last two years.
He added that the achievements recorded was as a result of unity and good working relationship among members of the 10th Assembly.
“Since the inception of the 10th Assembly, some of our achievements are: We passed 30 bills and 83 resolutions. The bills comprised executive and private members bills.
He thanked members for their support, co-operation, unity and effective synergy as well as collaboration with other arms of government in the state.
“I thank my honourable colleagues for the co-operation, love and unity that has existed among us; without which most of our achievements would not have been counted. Despite some misunderstandings that we experienced among ourselves in the past, we still continue to forge ahead with a common objective of representing our people well. After all, the beauty of democracy is only when we disagree to agree”, he said.
“Today, I make bold to say that we have lived up to our Constitutional responsibility by making laws for the peace, order and good governance of our dear State.
“It is true that God loves this Assembly, having kept us all in good health right from the first legislative session and to the end of the second legislative session.
Within the period under review, he said the House confirmed the nominations for appointment of chairmen and members of nine commissions and as a constitutional duty, the House through its various Standing, and Special Committees, carried out oversight on MDAs with a view to monitoring and controlling public funds meant for execution of projects by this MDAs, adding that it has helped in checkmating public spending.
On capital projects, he said the House undertook the renovation of Administrative block, completed the Assembly Complex, and carried out partial renovation of Office Block (Temporary House of Assembly Service Commission).
Others, he said include partial renovation of Chamber block and main chamber of the Assembly complex, reconstruction of Assembly quarters entrance gate and completed the Parliamentary Village among others.
During the year under review, he said the House sponsored members to attend workshop at Lagos and Abuja. Staff also received in-house training on capacity building including two staff that were recently trained at University of Calabar on E-Governance by the Korean Government, in Partnership with the Federal and State Ministries of Science, Innovation and Technology.
While commending the governor for placing premium on most of the resolutions which are always implemented, the Speaker also thanked him for the synergy with the House of Assembly, in terms of legislature and executive relationship and for his timely and prompt assent to Bills passed by the Assembly.
