A farmer identified as Ishaku Abalis has been beheaded in Panyam District of Mangu Local Council, Plateau State, in the latest wave of violence that has gripped the area.
National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Bulus Dabit, confirmed the incident yesterday, saying the killing occurred amid repeated attacks and kidnappings in Panyam and Pushit districts.
Describing the assaults as “incessant,” Dabit renewed calls for the establishment of state police, arguing that local policing is crucial to supporting federal security operations, curbing unlawful killings, and protecting lives.
“Abalis’ head was cut off and taken away by the killers. The local security outfits are aware. The Sector Commander in Mangu Council mobilised his officers and men to the site and is aware of the sporadic attacks on our people. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Mangu Local Council is also aware of the incident,” he said.
Dabit also called for increased security presence to reduce the vulnerability of communities in the region. He urged a strategic and robust deployment of security personnel to the most affected areas, saying visible security patrols could deter further attacks, restore public confidence, and protect innocent residents from violence.
He further appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the “heinous” crimes. At press time, spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Zhakom, as well as Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, had not responded to calls or messages regarding the incident.
