The Project Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Mr Thomas Haug, has disclosed that the three flyovers under construction along the Warri/Effurun roads would be completed by the end of March.
The Delta State Government had approved contracts worth N78 billion to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited for the construction of three flyover bridges. At the Enerhen, Effurun axis, the flyover is said to be approximately 97 per cent complete.
Haug, however, noted that some of the road works would be completed at later dates. He spoke on the progress of work on the projects but declined to state a possible date for commissioning, explaining that the Delta State Government would make the information public.
On the Osubi Road project, he said: “Work is ongoing. We are on it; we are still in the contractual period. We have made good progress. If you drive along from the airport, you can see that the work is going fast. We are working fast on all our projects because of the oncoming rains. You know, it is usually heavy here and across Delta State.”
He described the progress on the Ughelli and Agbor flyover projects as impressive, noting that while Julius Berger is constructing the flyover at Otovwodo, Ughelli, piling works are ongoing at Uromi Junction for the Agbor flyover project.
Haug attributed the progress recorded on the various projects in the state to cordial relationships with host communities and the absence of funding issues from the Delta State Government.
The company’s Regional Manager, Region South and East, Mr Friedrich Wiesa, said: “We are transforming challenges into tangible opportunities.”
Meanwhile, local business owners and commuters have commended the pace of work, saying it is already reshaping the neighbourhood and unlocking new commercial and residential opportunities.
A commercial taxi driver resident in Enerhen, Mr Joseph Eseoghene, and an accountant, Mr Jonathan Ojarikre, lauded the contractor’s commitment to speedy completion of the project.
They said: “For decades we have had to cope with bad roads which limited our communal interactions and businesses. And now, we only wait for the commissioning by the government. We are already feeling the progress the project is bringing to our community and the state.”
