A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, yesterday remanded three suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, for 60 days.
The suspects are Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip (22), Abduraheem Sakirudeen (27), and Sobur Obafunso (30).
They were arraigned before Magistrate Court 3, Isabo, Abeokuta, over the alleged murder of the broadcaster and her security guard, which occurred on June 20, 2026, at Agodo Village, Kobape, Abeokuta.
The principal suspect, Philip, allegedly enlisted the assistance of the other suspects, who are said to be cult members, to kill Oyesiku over claims that she owed him salary arrears while he worked as her security guard.
Philip and his alleged accomplices were later arrested and reportedly confessed to killing the former OGTV staff member “to teach her a lesson.”
During the proceedings, Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo granted an ex parte application filed by the police and ordered that the defendants be remanded.
The Police Legal Officer at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, A.S. Abiodun, informed the court that the application, dated July 6, sought an order remanding the suspects at the Nigerian Correctional Service for an initial period of 60 days.
According to the application, the remand is pending the issuance of legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the subsequent arraignment of the suspects before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Abiodun told the court that the application was brought pursuant to Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Ogun State, 2017, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.
He explained that the application was supported by a 24-paragraph affidavit deposed to by ASP Saka of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
He added that 17 exhibits and a written address were attached in support of the application.
The police legal officer urged the court to grant the application in the interest of justice.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Odubanjo granted the application as requested by the police and adjourned till September 10, 2026, for mention.
