The Nigeria Customs Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a large shipment of cannabis valued at approximately ₦16 billion in a coordinated anti-narcotics operation.
The seizure was made following intelligence-led surveillance and joint enforcement efforts aimed at curbing the trafficking of illegal drugs through Nigeria’s borders and waterways.
Officials disclosed that the intercepted consignment contained a substantial quantity of cannabis, commonly referred to as marijuana, which was concealed in a manner intended to evade detection by security agencies.
The operation, according to authorities, is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances within the country.
The agencies said the interception reflects strengthened collaboration between Customs and NDLEA in recent months.
Preliminary investigations suggest the shipment was being moved through established smuggling routes when it was tracked and intercepted by operatives. The suspects linked to the consignment are currently being pursued as investigations continue.
Authorities added that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those behind the trafficking network, including possible collaborators within and outside the country.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement operations across strategic entry points, while Customs officials emphasized that border security remains a key priority in the fight against transnational crime.
The interception is one of the latest in a series of coordinated operations targeting drug trafficking syndicates across Nigeria.
