Driver absconds with boss’ vehicle in Lagos, nabbed in Niger

The Niger State Police Command reported that on November 9, 2024, following credible technical intelligence, police operatives attached to the Command’s Tactical Support Team tracked and arrested one Aliyu Mohammed, 27, from Bida Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, around the Tunga area of Minna.

He was found in possession of a Toyota Highlander vehicle with registration number LSR 102 GU.

According to a statement issued to the press in Minna by the Command’s spokesperson, S.P. Wasiu Abiodun, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a driver working in the Lekki area of Lagos.

He stated that he drove his boss, who was travelling to the airport, and decided to steal the vehicle and drive it to Minna.

The suspect also admitted to calling his boss and claiming that he had been robbed of the vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos to cover up his actions.

Aliyu revealed that his intention was to take the vehicle to Kaduna the next day, where he planned to sell it quickly and return to Lagos.

He claimed to have worked with the victim for over three years, earning a monthly salary of N70,000, but was dissatisfied.

He added that he needed money to join a football academy in Abuja, which led him to steal the vehicle.

The statement added that the suspect is currently under investigation at the TST unit of the Command.
