The incident, which occurred yesterday, unfolded when the driver, intercepted by LASTMA personnel for allegedly violating traffic rules, resisted arrest aggressively in the Cele inward Mile 2 area.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, the driver and his conductor escalated the situation, pouring petrol on the officers and engaging in physical confrontations.
One officer suffered severe burns and was taken to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
LASTMA, referencing the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and safety on Lagos roads.
The agency urged drivers to respect traffic regulations and warned that any acts of violence or intimidation against its personnel would be met with firm action.
