Easter tragedy: Delta gov’s aide Shimite Bello slain, husband in custody

Delta State has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of Chief Mrs Shimite Bello, Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, who was allegedly murdered by her husband on Easter Day.

The Guardian learnt that Bello was reportedly killed by her spouse, Pastor David Favour Love, during a domestic disagreement at their residence in Asaba, the Delta State capital. Details of the incident remain unclear as at the time of filing this report.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, disclosing that although the exact cause of her death is yet to be determined, the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody at a police station in Asaba.

Until her death, Shimite Bello served as the Special Adviser on Trade and Export Promotion to the governor. She was widely regarded as a vibrant politician and a dedicated advocate for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Her work also spanned financial literacy, export development, social entrepreneurship, reputation management, and public speaking.

Her death has sparked a wave of grief across the state and beyond, with tributes pouring in from friends and associates.
According to a family member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the late Shimite was in good health when they spoke with her a day before she died.

“I spoke with her for over an hour on Saturday. Nothing was wrong with her. On Sunday, I sent her Easter messages, but she didn’t reply, which was unusual.”

The family source further revealed that Shimite’s maid called her elder brother, informing him that the husband had locked her in the house since morning.
Following this information, her brother rushed in and found her already foaming at the mouth. He rushed her to the hospital, but she was confirmed dead by doctors on duty,” the source said.

One of her close friends, Maxwell Ajufo, expressed deep anguish upon hearing the news. “What a way to start Easter on Monday. I can only hope, desperately, that what I just heard isn’t true. I’m cold. Very cold. This pain is deep,” he wrote. “The sun was still at noon in her life. She had so much ahead; so much to give, to share, to become. This is too heavy to carry.”

Known for her brilliance and sense of purpose, Bello was said to have carried herself with a distinct intellectual clarity that left an impression on everyone she encountered.
