The Ogun State Police Command has deployed personnel and operational assets across strategic locations to strengthen security ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.

The strategic locations include Eid prayer grounds, major highways, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, residential areas, and other identified public spaces.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued yesterday, explaining that the deployment was aimed at ensuring visible policing, effective crowd control, early threat detection, and swift response to any emerging security concerns before, during, and after the celebration.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to remain on high alert to ensure the security of lives and property across the state.

Babaseyi added that operatives had been instructed to sustain aggressive patrols, conduct stop-and-search operations where necessary, and ensure round-the-clock supervision of personnel within their areas of responsibility.

He noted that they had also been directed to strengthen collaboration with community leaders, transport unions, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance intelligence sharing and prevent any breakdown of law and order during the festive period.

Ojajuni reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing, peace, and the protection of lives and property across the state.

He encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police formation or through the command’s emergency lines.

Similarly, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has deployed 32 patrol vehicles, six motorcycles, three ambulances, and two tow trucks as part of its operational logistics to reduce road traffic crashes (RTCs) and ensure the free flow of traffic along major corridors in the state during the Sallah festive period.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, stated in a statement issued by the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, that the deployment was aimed at enhancing visibility patrols, prompt rescue response, traffic control, and effective enforcement of traffic regulations throughout the festive period.

He admonished residents of Ogun State and the motoring public to take responsibility for their safety by avoiding reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, overloading, speeding, the use of mobile phones while driving, drunk driving, and other traffic violations capable of causing crashes on highways.

According to him, driving beyond the approved speed limit remains one of the major causes of road traffic crashes.

He warned that any driver found violating traffic regulations would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

Speaking ahead of the Sallah celebration, the Sector Commander emphasised the need for patience, tolerance, and discipline among motorists and other road users.

He reiterated that road safety is a shared responsibility and called on stakeholders, transport unions, fleet operators, and passengers to support the corps in achieving a crash-free festive season.

Also, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has deployed 2,150 officers and men to ensure adequate security and curb any attempt by unscrupulous elements to vandalise critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.

The Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, said it was important to ensure the timely deployment of security personnel before, during, and after the celebration because of the significance attached to the period, which would also witness increased movement of residents, travellers, and visitors from different states and countries into Lagos.

He stated that the operational strategies put in place by the command would help rid the state of criminals and curb the activities of vandals and other criminal elements capable of undermining the economic growth and development of the state during and after the celebration.

Keshinro charged officers and men across all formations of the command to intensify efforts to protect strategic locations, facilities, rights of way, oil pipeline installations, religious and worship centres, parks and gardens, as well as other critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.

The commandant admonished officers and men to remain on red alert while discharging their duties without fear or favour.

He also urged them to remain professional, competent, and respectful of the rights and privileges of members of the public while carrying out their responsibilities before, during, and after the celebrations.

The Lagos State Commandant encouraged the Muslim Ummah to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice, prayer, sobriety, compassion, and faith exemplified in the life of Prophet Ibrahim. He also urged them to use the season to pray for the unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria.

He appealed to members of the public to report incidents through the official Lagos NSCDC communication channels and emergency lines.

In Ogun State, the NSCDC deployed 1,920 personnel across the state to protect lives and property and maintain security before, during, and after the celebrations.

The State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sulaimon Folorunso.

She explained that the deployment became necessary following the Federal Government’s declaration of public holidays for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, with the aim of ensuring peaceful, hitch-free, and secure celebrations across Ogun State.

She stated that the personnel were drawn from various departments, units, tactical squads, divisions, and area commands of the corps to strengthen security presence and maintain law and order throughout the festive period.

The commandant further directed that the operation should focus not only on the protection of residents and visitors but also on securing critical national assets and infrastructure belonging to the federal, state, and local governments across the state.

She explained that the proactive deployment would help prevent vandalism, economic sabotage, and other criminal activities often associated with festive periods.

Ekundayo charged all deployed personnel to exhibit the highest level of discipline, professionalism, civility, and operational alertness in the discharge of their duties, while maintaining cordial relationships with members of the public.

She congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged residents of the state to uphold the virtues of peace, tolerance, unity, sacrifice, and mutual understanding, which she described as core teachings of the Holy Qur’an.

She also appealed to the public to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and promptly reporting suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest NSCDC formation or other security agencies for immediate response.
