Farouk Lawan, a former Federal lawmaker from Kano State and ex-member of the House of Representatives, has regained his freedom after completing a five-year prison sentence for demanding and accepting a $500,000 bribe.
Lawan’s conviction, which stemmed from his solicitation of a $3 million bribe from billionaire oil tycoon Femi Otedola while he chaired a House committee investigating fuel subsidy fraud in 2012, was upheld by the Supreme Court on January 26, 2024.
