The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman, Aladi Offikwu Johnson, popularly known as Tessy, who was discovered unconscious with her hands tied behind her back in a hotel room in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja.
The tragic incident, which has sparked outrage after a disturbing video went viral on social media, was confirmed in a statement issued by Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, on Wednesday.
According to the police, Tessy, a native of Benue State, had checked into the hotel located on 3rd Avenue in Gwarinpa on June 16, 2025, accompanied by an unidentified man.
However, the man was later seen leaving the premises without her.
“Hotel staff reportedly found her unconscious during routine service rounds and immediately alerted the police.
“Medical personnel were called in, but she was sadly confirmed dead,” the police spokesperson said.
In response to the incident, Ajao Adewale, FCT Commissioner of Police, has directed a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to her death and identify the perpetrator.
The police have urged the public to remain calm as detectives work diligently to determine the cause of the incident.
“We are committed to ensuring justice is served and the perpetrator(s) are brought to book,” the CP assured.
CP Adewale also issued a cautionary note to young women, advising them to be vigilant in their social interactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals.
He urged them to always inform trusted family members or friends about their movements and whereabouts.
Furthermore, the CP called on hotel operators across the FCT to bolster their internal security systems.
He stressed the importance of proper guest identity verification and the installation of functional surveillance equipment to support both crime prevention and post-incident investigations.
The police command expressed its condolences to Tessy’s family and pledged its full commitment to ensuring that justice prevails.
The police spokesperson said further updates on the investigation will be made available in due course.
